The Radisson Edwardian chain of hotels has pledged to support tackling climate change by signing up to WWF's Earth Hour between 8.30 and 9.30 pm on Saturday, 27 March 2010.

The privately owned UK hotelier has announced they will be switching off all public lights across their portfolio of 12 London hotels to demonstrate its support of action against climate change.

Set in prominent locations across the heart of the capital including Leicester Square, Mayfair, Bloomsbury and Heathrow, Radisson Edwardian will be plunging some of the busiest corners of London into darkness by switching off all public interior and exterior lights.

Hotel guests will also be encouraged to switch off their own bedroom lights and join the hotel for an intimate evening of dinner by candlelight.

“We are delighted to be supporting WWF’s Earth Hour once more and would urge all of our guests and partners to do the same” said Linda Plant, Radisson Edwardian marketing director. “As a global brand we believe we should earn our place on this planet and help to support and sustain our environment for future generations. We strive to conduct our business by improving our overall ecological and carbon footprint without compromising on guest experience and satisfaction.”

Dax Lovegrove, WWF-UK head of business and industry, said: “Climate change is one of the most serious threats facing people and nature, and demands urgent global action. Last year, world leaders missed a key opportunity to agree a global climate deal in Copenhagen, but with each year of delay, the impacts on people and wildlife get more severe and the window of opportunity gets smaller.

“Businesses have a key role to play in the fight against climate change – both in terms of prevention and adapting to its worst impacts. The support from the likes of Radisson Edwardian Hotels for Earth Hour proves that, even in tough economic times, the appetite for change among the private sector is there.”
