Applications are now being taken for a new ‘boot camp’ aimed at giving aspiring environmental entrepreneurs a head start in business.

The ‘boot camp’ is taking place in Nottingham over three days and will give delegates expert advice by taking them through an intense three-day programme delivered by seasoned CleanTech entrepreneurs, business experts and investors.

Sessions will cover such areas as raising finance, accounting, business planning, intellectual property, networking, marketing and promoting a business.

Held at one of Europe’s most successful business incubators, Nottingham’s BioCity, the boot camp is designed specifically for innovators and small businesses working in the low carbon and environmental goods and services sector. This includes green-tech, energy efficiency, renewable energy, alternative fuels, pollution abatement, environmental monitoring, mobile phone recycling and recycling services.

The camp will culminate with a ‘Dragon’s Den’- style event where delegates will pitch real business ideas to a panel of experts, who will offer feedback and advice. Delegates will also have the chance to make useful business contacts at a specially organised Green Business Club event where they will network with entrepreneurs who are already running established environmental businesses.

The programme was first launched in 2010 and has proved to be an unqualified success. A number of businesses have since been established by budding entrepreneurs who attended last year’s course

There are 40 places available on the three-day the camp which takes place from November 9th -11th. A limited number of sponsored places are available at £50 per person on a first come basis

The Enviro-Entrepreneur Boot Camp has been devised by BioCity’s incubation manager Dr Nick Gostick, whose experience of the sector includes starting several environmental businesses.
“This sector is growing and is set to play an increasingly important role in the economy of the East Midlands and Britain,” he said.

“One reason it is growing is that there are entrepreneurs out there who are responding to today’s environmental responsibilities by devising exciting new technologies and concepts in areas such as energy efficiency and carbon abatement.

“However, many lack the knowledge necessary to take a good business idea to the next level and it is for these people that the Enviro-Entrepreneur Boot Camp has been designed.

“We believe that the programme will appeal to the next generation of green entrepreneurs who want to know how to turn their ideas into successful businesses, while also giving themselves an advantage over the competition.”

Support and sponsorship for the Enviro-Entrepreneur School is being provided by energy company E.ON, NDE and the European Regional Development Fund.
