Volunteers from across London will be getting stuck into environmental projects this Saturday to showcase the work of environmental charity BTCV.
Hundreds of volunteers will be coming together to improve the woodland and wildlife areas in Regent’s Park, creating new glades, habitats and learning the traditional skills of coppicing and hedgelaying between 10am and 4pm.
BTCV is a national environmental charity which helps individuals and communities improve green space.
The Big Green Weekend is taking place across the UK and Europe and aims to showcase the charity’s work.
London volunteers will take part in volunteering sessions at the same time as volunteers in nine European countries including Iceland, Italy, Estonia, Greece and Holland.
Tom Flood, chief executive of BTCV, said: “BTCV quietly gets on with its work transforming communities and giving people the skills and confidence they need to improve their environment.
“But as a charity we need your help to raise funds and keep up the good work.”
As volunteers across the UK and Europe make a difference to a local environment this autumn (October 21-23), you can also join in the fun.
As part of the Big Green Weekend celebration why not download a simple and fun nature treasure hunt to complete with your family? You can join BTCV volunteers in Regent’s Park, make bird and bug boxes, join us on guided walks in the park. Or if you prefer, you can simply do the hunt in your own local park.
It’s up to you whether you collect seeds, leaves or bark rubbings but you’ll be able to print off handy mini identification guides and when you’ve finished there will be a certificate to download and print.
What’s more…if you want to raise money for BTCV there’s even a sponsorship form available or the option of fundraising online through BTCV’s pages at Virgin Giving.
