SOS campaign reaches 1,000 supporter milestone

Since its launch this morning, the ClickGreen weekend-long 'Save Our Solar' (SOS) campaign has now received its 1,000th message calling on the Government to push back its leaked proposals of a December 8 deadline for a 50% cut in solar PV Feed-in Tariff rates.

An equal split of consumers and suppliers have messaged ClickGreen's SOS campaign to oppose the planned changes, which were leaked ahead of an announcement in Parliament on Monday.

Dozens of would-be solar-powered households have indicated they have no choice but to cancel their orders and scores of companies say the move will likely mean the loss of thousands of jobs and wasted stock.

The owner of one Aberystwyth-based company said he has lost an average of £1,500 an hour since yesterday's leaked announcement in cancelled installations.

Another campaign supporter pointed out the discrepancy between the two months' warning provided to the utility-sized, over-50kw PV plants that faced a similar tariff-cut deadline on August 1, compared to the six-week window given to thousands of domestic installations.

Proposals for a 50% reduction in UK solar PV Feed-in Tariffs, to come into effect from December 8 this year, are expected to be announced in Parliament on Monday.

But yesterday's blunder by the Energy Saving Trust, which revealed the anticipated details before the weekend, has provided a unique two-day window for the industry and consumers to come together to voice their opposition over this weekend.

ClickGreen has been inundated by comments condemning the Government decision, and is collecting all messages asking to defer December's deadline and forwarding them directly to Secretary of State Chris Huhne, fellow Ministers Greg Barker and Charles Hendry and the Department of Energy and Climate Change.

If you want to add weight to the argument for pushing back the proposed December 8 cut-off date, please email ClickGreen's Save Our Solar campaign at sos@clickgreen.org.uk, tweet a message to us on Twitter@greensourcenews, leave a note on our ClickGreen Facebook page or simply leave a comment below.

There is now one day left to voice your strong opinion and help influence Monday's announcement.
