Students receiving their A-level results are being urged to volunteer in developing nations as part of a Government-funded scheme.
Platform2 offers fully funded trips to foreign countries to help with eco-projects across the globe. The Department for International Development and Christian Aid is looking for volunteers aged 18-25 to participate in the programme.
Over 700 young people have already taken part in projects such as working to stop deforestation in Kenya, encouraging locals to make money from more eco-friendly methods such as beekeeping and fish farming.
Other countries covered by the scheme are India, Nepal, Peru and South Africa. As well as participating in eco-initiatives, volunteers are also building schools, teaching children and advising people on how best to use natural resources.
Volunteer Sarah Owen, 23, who has recently returned from India, said: "Whilst in India, I worked on a women's equality project and formed relationships with young women my age I will never forget.
“I collected traditional songs from the women I worked with, and have taught them to young people in my own community back here in Devon.
“They have been fascinated to learn the songs and hear my stories - I think Platform2 is a chance for young people to see the world in a different way and encourage us to have compassion for others from all different walks of life."
Volunteers spend 10 weeks at their destination and are encouraged to blog about their experience on the Platform2 website.
The Department for International Development has urged volunteers to apply by October via the Platform2 website.
