Forecasters at the UK Met Office have issued a series of flash severe gale warnings for Northern England after hurricane-force winds wreaked havoc overnight.
The weather analysts are warning of a repeat of last night's destruction when winds of up to 130mph battered parts of Scotland.
Despite the storm gales, England is today enjoying unseasonally warm temperatures of up to 13C, which is near-double the February average of 6.9C. Earlier this week, the thermometer mercury in parts of the UK plunged to minus 10C.
The Met Office's severe gale warnings apply to North West and North East England, Yorkshire and Humber between 17.30 tonight and 3am on Saturday morning.
The Highlands of Scotland as well as the Grampian region have been warned to expect blizzard snow conditions.
A spokeswoman for the Met Office said: “We are working closely with the environment agencies to keep an eye on any flood risks, but it is important for drivers to be particularly careful over the next couple of days as driving conditions are not going to be very nice. We’re looking at gusts of up to 80mph in exposed areas.”
