Commons select committee to scrutinise solar FiT cuts

A House of Commons' committee is to launch an inquiry into the Government decision to halve the Feed-in Tariff for solar PV and the December cut-off for the current, higher rate.

MPs on the influential Environmental Audit Committee have voted to launch the investigation and will make a call for evidence tomorrow.

The move follows Monday's announcement by Energy Minister Greg Barker that the current 43.3p/kWh Feed-in Tariff will be replaced by a 21p rate for eligible installations from December 12.

The decision has caused an outcry with consumers and industry complaining that the 6-week window is too drastic and will do irreparable damage to the fledging market and damage consumer confidence in renewable energy.

Now the 16 MPs sitting on the Environmental Audit Committee have drawn up the terms of reference for their solar FiT inquiry, which will be made public tomorrow.

The ClickGreen 'Save Our Solar' campaign, that has so far received over 5,000 messages of complaint, will offer to send through your opinions to the select committee inquiry.

For written submissions directly to the Committees, please note:

Each submission should ideally:

• Begin with a short summary in bullet point form;

• Have numbered paragraphs; and

• Be in Word format with as little use of colour or logos as possible.

A copy of the submission should be sent by e-mail to eacom@parliament.uk and marked ‘Solar Feed-in Tariff’. An additional paper copy should be sent to:

Clerk of the Committee
Environmental Audit Committee
House of Commons
7 Millbank
London
SW1P 3JA

In addition, if you want to add weight to the argument for pushing back the proposed December 12 cut-off date, please email ClickGreen's Save Our Solar campaign at sos@clickgreen.org.uk, tweet a message to us on Twitter@greensourcenews, leave a note on our ClickGreen Facebook page or simply leave a comment below.

Comments about Parliament to launch inquiry into Feed-in Tariff cut decision

FIT is a tax rebate, exclude from the sums. 20 year cost of solar PV is around £600 p/a. Energy produced worth £200 p/a. It makes no sense.
