MPs have been urged to show support for an Early Day Motion in Parliament that calls on the Government to reconsider plans to cut the Feed-in Tariff to 21p from December 12.
The ClickGreen 'SOS' campaign has so far collected nearly 6,000 messages condemning the early deadline and has been included in on dozens of messages to MPs asking for an extension in the cut-off point.
But despite the huge reaction from consumers and industry alike, only 11 MPs have so far shown support for the Early Day Motion (EDM) tabled in the House of Commons by Leeds North East MP Fabian Hamilton.
The Labour MP's motion 2363, reads: “Regrets the Government’s decision to reduce the Feed-in Tariff from 43.3p per KwH to 21p per KwH with effect from 12th December 2011; believes that this timeframe is unfair to hundreds of businesses in the industry who will not now be able to complete installation in the time available; is concerned that this measure will trigger a significant number of redundancies in the remaining weeks of this year; feels that the Government’s green credentials are being damaged unnecessarily in the rush to save relatively small amounts of expenditure; and urges the Government to reconsider this hasty measure.”
Mr Hamilton told ClickGreen: "When the last Labour Government included the concept and reality of the Feed-in Tariff into its legislation, the aim was to ensure the growth of a healthy market in the sustainable micro generation of electricity and to give a kick start to the green energy industry.
"In spite of its profession of green credentials, this Coalition Government has reneged on a promise to ensure the continuation of the growth of this market.
"Investors, businesses and householders who wish to contribute to a reduction in carbon emissions in this country will feel rightly let down very badly by the mean-minded and unnecessary reduction in the Feed-in Tariff."
EDMs allow MPs to draw attention to a cause and allow fellow MPs to register their support by signing the individual motions. They are also submitted to generate enough backing to secure a Commons' debate on an issue.
As well as asking your MP to support Fabian Hamilton's Early Day Motion, to add further weight to the argument for pushing back the proposed December 12 cut-off date, please email ClickGreen's Save Our Solar campaign at sos@clickgreen.org.uk, tweet a message to us on Twitter@greensourcenews, leave a note on our ClickGreen Facebook page or simply leave a comment below.
