Thousands of parents will be cheered today to learn Glastonbury Festival organisers had this year installed the world's largest eco shower block.
Event-goers were able to stay fresh through this weekend's sweltering temperatures thanks to the massive solar-powered washing facility.
And Festival fans were finally able to rinse away their 'soap dodger' reputation as personal hygiene can be maintained despite several days of crowds, cramped tents and dancing.
The giant block of solar-powered wash cubicles were capable of providing more than 5,000 steaming hot showers a day.
Oakham-based manufacturers Navitron had ensured the unique facility is entirely carbon neutral with photovoltaic-powered controls and solar circulation pumps.
Workers spent three days filling the tanks with enough water to last the weekend. It was heated through a network of 16 vacuum tube panels.
Navitron spokesman Ivan Lucas said the green shower block could heat over 16,000 litres of water a day and back-up systems were on standby to ensure a hot wash regardless of the weather.
“The weekend's weather was very changeable and our showers were incredibly popular,” Lucas added. “I know it can be fun to go three days without a wash – but there is now really no excuse to return home without having at least one hot shower this weekend.”
