Parts of the UK are set for blizzard conditions tomorrow as the current spell of freak and extreme weather is forecast to continue.
The Met Office has this afternoon issued an amber weather alert for heavy snow in London and South East England, the West and East Midlands as well as the South West and Wales.
And in other parts of the UK, forecasters are warning of icy conditions as the temperature plummets.
The amber weather alert, which is valid from 1am to 11am on Friday morning, warns: “Outbreaks of rain will turn readily to snow during the early hours of Friday across parts of Wales and the Midlands, then increasingly into central southern England by dawn.
“The snow is likely to accumulate over time, particularly, but not exclusively over higher ground. The public should be prepared for travel disruption during Friday morning.
“The public is advised to take extra care.”
The Arctic conditions are likely to last over the weekend although the UK is now expected to dodge the worst of the huge storm that is now on track to crash into France tomorrow.
The storm may still bring gale-force winds as it clips the south coast of England.
The Met Office Chief Forecaster, Anthony Astbury, said: “The unsettled weather over the next few days could bring a range of hazards across the country, from snow and ice to heavy rain and strong winds.
“We're working closely with Government agencies and the resilience community to keep them up to date with the latest information.
“We'd advise the public to regularly check our latest forecasts and warnings to stay up-to-date with the situation.”
The UK has been battered by freak weather conditions that have lasted for more than a week.
Last Thursday, a huge storm with 165mph winds crashed across Scotland causing Police to advise the public to stay indoors for their own safety.
On Monday, high winds and heavy rain hit England and Wales - one man had a lucky escape when a tree smashed into his bedroom while he was asleep in Winchester, Hampshire.
Snowfalls has already fallen as far south as Exmoor in Devon yesterday and continued to sweep across large parts of the north, as well as Scotland and Ireland as the wintry conditions set in and look to last.
