AVC Energy warns workforce of job losses

Directors at one of the UK's leading renewable energy installers AVC Energy are refusing to comment on claims its entire workforce has been placed on notice of redundancy.

Workers say they were told to return all the company's vans and tools last week as management began the statutory redundancy consultation last Thursday.

AVC Energy are one of the largest renewable energy companies in the UK and works with blue-chip clients such as Lloyds TSB Bank, IKEA and Marks and Spencer.

They are also installation partners with Carillion, who last year announced similar plans to lay-off thousands of jobs as a result of the proposed cut to the Feed-in Tariff scheme for solar PV installations.

The Leeds-based company also carried out installations on behalf of Ecovision, Freetricity and Homesun. Lawyers for Homesun told the Court of Appeal last week its own redundancy consultation period was due to end this Friday.

One installer at AVC Energy told ClickGreen the jobs of 75 surveyors, 150 installers and nearly all the electricians were to be lost.

Many of the company's workforce had been on “stand-down” ever since December 12.

A spokesman said the company was not willing to make a comment.

All true. When the going is good, they will hire, when it's bad, you don't exist. No planning, no loyalty, no clue. Just scum.
