Ecometrica, the climate change and sustainability expert, has been named as a carbon calculation partner by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), an independent not-for-profit organisation holding the largest database of primary corporate climate change information in the world.

The accreditation is a significant endorsement for Edinburgh-based Ecometrica, which becomes the first carbon calculation partner for CDP in the UK.

It follows an extensive evaluation by the independent Greenhouse Gas Management Institute of Ecometrica’s enterprise greenhouse gas accounting software, Our Impacts.

Thousands of organisations from across the world’s major economies measure and disclose their greenhouse gas emissions and climate change strategies through the CDP.

Joanna Lee, chief partnerships officer of the CDP said, “The evaluation of Our Impacts demonstrated the valuable support that Ecometrica can provide companies through the data gathering process. We are delighted to welcome Ecometrica as our first UK-based carbon calculator partner.”

Richard Tipper, managing director of Ecometrica, said: “This accreditation underscores the credibility of Our Impacts and is a testimony to the pioneering work by the team. We have successfully completed a large number of GHG assessments, across a wide range of sectors, and our work with the Carbon Disclosure Project will now enable us to collaborate and share this experience and best practice across the CDP community.”

Ecometrica’s analysts have carried out several thousand greenhouse gas assessments for companies and governments around the world.

This first-hand experience has allowed the company to develop Our Impacts, a class-leading emissions and assumption knowledge base and calculation engine, which is maintained and constantly updated by professionals.

It measures all greenhouse gasses, not just carbon dioxide, as well as handling Scope 3 emissions. This delivers considerable and significant efficiency gains over conventional calculation methods, while safeguarding quality and accuracy at each stage.

Based in Edinburgh and Montreal, Ecometrica operates a global network of business partners, who provide upstream services to address all parts of the carbon management and reduction process.
